[ what it feels like to be on a mission trip ]

Let it be clear...


...that I'm probably going to mention one of the surefire ways to start a debate/lose interest on the internet .
I don't stand for it's version that 'brainwashes' the masses, that it's followers stuff down other people's throats, that inspires prejudice against minorities/people with different sexuality/people with troubled pasts/people with financial problems/people in general.
No 'holier-than-thou' attitudes, no pretending that the sun shines out of our arses, just my experience as a volunteer teacher of good conduct, general knowledge and religion. [ crowd 'oohh's hahhaha ] No fights over this, I'm just telling a story.

DVBS


Daily Vacation Bible School. For 3-11 years old, lasting 4-5 days each [not including preparations ] and assisting it was an order for our school's incoming officers.
I joined three. The first was was relatively easy, held at our own private school.  Well-rounded kids that grew up in church, behaved to an extent, clean and attentive. Your normal, upper middle class kids with less #YOLO and more manners. Classes were held in air conditioned rooms, complete sets of seats/tables and materials for everyone.  Different classrooms for the hundred kids who joined, separated according to age. Even for someone who's introverted and didn't like kids- it was fine. Woke always up at 6 am, classes until 12pm and clean ups/preparations for the next day until 4pm- did I mention it's summer and there was no pay? Just lunch//

The next was called Outreach, featuring the kids from neighboring suburbs.  It was held in a basketball court. Humid, but tolerable; No  individual seats aside from the benches, which was okay. These kids had practical minds in a childish way, they have their own minds- not easily swayed by anything an adult says. Some were clean, others probably skipped a day in bathing- but ti was alright.  There were the 'Power Ranger' kids who only responded if called by their respective colors hahaha//

The third trip though, which started today- it was different. Another city, straight to the slums. The kids , 50+ of them, were unwashed, underfed, practical-minded You'd see a four year old with mouths to rival a sailor. Our 'room' was just a detached room of a abandoned house. Three walls with cracking cement, the fourth opening to a view of  a polluted river and ramshackle houses.  There was such a contrast outside- like those views you'd only see in awareness posters. On one side was the soaring buildings, paved roads and concrete fences. On our side of the river, houses tacked together with tarpaulin, mismatched pieces of wood, everything. If you've read the third book of Divergent, the Allegiant- it would be like the place where humanity's outcasts subsisted beside the modern facilities. Or them being the Factionless.  It was a really hot summer's day, we had no electric fans. Fifty-plus students and teachers sharing one room with all the unpleasant smells in close proximity.  I was teaching when this little kids suddenly broke out in an all-out cat fight. Grubby hands clawing the other's faces and hair, skinny legs kicking the air. Imagine two Gollums fighting over Precious and you'll get an idea. There was a kid who introduced himself as Fish [ Bangus or Milkfish to be precise, because he smelled like one ]. He had scabs all over his body, one or two got picked off in a fight and he started bleeding blood and pus in the middle of the floor, managing a parting 'Nyeh-nyeh!' at his opponent before being pulled away to get cleaned. As I started giving out prizes for behaved students- they came upon me like a flood [ oops pardon the melodrama ]; A sea of hands, faces, Fish and acrid smells clawing for a piece of jelly ace.
It was tiring as hell.  Your nice, soapy clean scents replaced with sticky, running sweat and those of unwashed bodies.
We did crafts- and as a child gave her paper shield for me to inspect and applaud- my finger landed on something gooey and dirty green/brown. I imagine it's just rice or something from when we gave them meals. Don't ruin my comforting imagination please.
The teachers were close to screaming out of frustration at the constant fight breaking out, half the kids not really listening, almost all of them talking like some young schoolgirl does with her best friend or moms over the phone.
A nd yet as they ate their fill and started wandering back home, a few came to us, waving good bye and shouting  "Thank you teachers, please come back."
and despite all the circumstances,
we will.

> drum lessons from classmate THAT MIGHT NOT BE CONTINUED W HY

> Feed My Sheep [ basically a feeding program for the poor that our school has// ]

aside from being more active in groups- I have these characters in mind
but since I usually end up hating/unnecessarily changing any character I do
I'm seeking custom for these things ? [ points/art only gomen ] 

> Tiger x Dragon pairing. Any gender. One of these could be owned by someone else ? Doesn't have to be a romantic pairing. Could be friendship/rivalry etc. 
Basically inspired by Chinese mythology. Qing Long/ Azure Dragon of the East & Bai Hu/White Tiger of the West.  A group of friends [ including the Vermilion Bird & Black Tortoise ] ? I'm thinking of more future/fantasy-esque + streetwear  themed clothes. Modern day misunderstood Robin Hoods living in a technologically advanced, morally declining world. Mine would most likely be male//

> This is more of a personal character- a personification of Love ? I dislike the norm interpretations as some pink, frilly female with heart themes though. I prefer the darker side-Primal, powerful, harsh, tempestuous with twisted views of martyrdom. Female, wears a lot of black/red/teal? or gold. Clawed gloves + scimitar as weapons. Black swan.
